First Asian Golfer Who Beat Tiger Woods
South Korea’s Y.E. Yang became the first Asian winner of a major title when he beat Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship.
The 37-year-old won the title on Sunday by three strokes over world number one Woods.
Yang fired a two-under par 70 at Hazeltine, the longest course in major golf history, and with a chip-in eagle at 14 and birdie at 18 forced 14-time major winner Woods to settle for second.
Yang, ranked 110th in the world, gets $1.35 million for his win in the year's final major. His only previous US PGA Tour win came in March at the Honda Classic.
Yang had taken up golf at 19 simply as a way to pay bills, but ended up finding the job of his dreams.
